Amphorae Caves
Conosciuto anche come: Amphora Cave · Amphora Caves
The signature feature is a cave in whose ceiling broken Roman-era amphorae have become cemented into the rock; American archaeologists who studied the site attributed this to movements of the seabed over some two thousand years. Around it the reef offers swim-throughs and overhangs with plenty of natural light, sheltered by the small island. The deeper part of the dive crosses sand and Posidonia seagrass where pearly razorfish dart into the sand and stingrays are sometimes seen. Octopus, moray eels, hermit crabs, wrasse and damselfish are common, and at night shrimps, lobsters and cuttlefish come out, which makes it a night dive too.
