José Illueca Wreck
Conosciuto anche come: José Illueca
Built in 1922 in Gdańsk, the ship was sold in 1944 to a Las Palmas company and sailed under the Spanish flag, but was suspected of carrying ore for the German war effort. A British squadron sank it on 19 April 1944 off the coast between Port-Vendres and Cerbère, opposite the marine reserve. It is the deepest wreck in the usual area of CAP Port-Vendres and remains relatively well preserved. Because few divers reach it, anthias, conger eels and large lobsters are plentiful, though old nets cover parts of the hull. Current and low visibility make it a demanding dive.
