Mexico Rocks
Mexico Rocks is a marine reserve made up of roughly a hundred patch reefs built mostly by boulder coral, a type of patch reef rare elsewhere in Belize. The coral heads stand several metres high and almost reach the surface, sheltering flame scallops, banded shrimp, eels and lobster. The barrier reef keeps out the swell, so there is rarely any current, and no mooring buoys mark the site. Stingrays, nurse sharks and turtles are common, and the sand flats between the heads are good for searching for small creatures.
