Clan McWilliam

The Clan McWilliam was a steel steamer built in 1918 that caught fire while loading copra in Neiafu Harbour in December 1927 and sank after burning for more than a day. The ship rests upright and largely intact, with its superstructure starting at about 18 m and the seabed at about 37 m, so most of the deck lies in the high twenties. Corals have grown over the hull and shelter schools of small fish, crustaceans and well camouflaged scorpionfish and stonefish. Because of the depth, bottom time is short and a full tour usually takes two dives. The wreck is old, and penetration is described as dangerous.
