Alki Fishing Reef

Alki Fishing Reef consists of several stacks of large boulders, some around 20 ft tall, resting on a gently sloping silty bottom. Emerald Diving dates the reef to the artificial reef programme of the 1980s that aimed to help rockfish populations. A buoy marks the main pile, and further piles lie a short swim away on the same line, so good navigation is needed to get back to the buoy chain. Schools of black, copper and quillback rockfish gather around the piles together with lingcod, kelp greenling and painted greenling. The site lies several hundred yards offshore and is not practical from the beach.
