PBM Mariner

The Mariner was a twin-engine American flying boat that flew reconnaissance, transport and rescue missions around Saipan and Tinian, including the recovery of downed B-29 crews. The wreck was identified by its angled central wing and two machine-gun turrets. Its debris field stretches about 300 ft across the bottom. Piles of ammunition, turret hatches and control panel parts can still be seen. All underwater heritage sites in Saipan are protected by law, so nothing may be taken.
