Balaban Island

Balaban Island sits on the eastern side of the gulf, and the water around it plunges to great depth, so staring into the blue is part of the experience. Divers usually start at the south-western tip and keep the island on one side; air permitting, a full circuit is possible. The shaded northern face hides lobsters, crabs and morays, while barracuda hunt off the western point and bonito chase schools of sand smelt in autumn. Lykia World reports more turtle sightings here than anywhere else it dives. A few amphorae lie near the western end.
