Lava Flow
También conocido como: Lava Flow Reef
When Gunung Api erupted in 1988, lava flowed down its northern slopes into the sea and buried the existing reef. Corals, mostly Acropora, settled on the cooled rock surprisingly fast and have built a new reef with nearly complete hard coral cover. Table corals have grown to huge sizes, and deeper down fields of cabbage leaf coral take over. Triggerfish, parrotfish, cuttlefish, sea snakes and schools of batfish are common, and Napoleon wrasse cruise along the deeper parts. The site shows how quickly a reef can recover, which makes it interesting for scientists as well as for every visiting diver.
