Lake Geneva

Suiza

Western Europe's largest natural lake, shared by Switzerland and France, offering deep wall dives along its steep shores, historic and training wrecks, and an active club and dive-centre scene on both banks.

Lake Geneva, known in French as Lac Léman, is a glacial lake of about 580 square kilometres and up to 310 metres deep, shared between Switzerland (about 60 percent) and France. Scuba diving is one of its main leisure activities, supported by clubs and dive centres in Geneva, Lausanne, Morges and the Riviera on the Swiss shore and around Évian and Thonon on the French shore. The steep mountainsides continue underwater, giving wall dives such as those at Rivaz, near Lausanne and below Chillon Castle. Wrecks include the 19th-century passenger steamer Hirondelle at roughly 40 to 60 metres for technical divers, a small aircraft at about 30 metres and shallow training wrecks near Villeneuve. Typical fish are perch, pike, trout and burbot. Visibility varies, and a drysuit is needed outside summer. Source: Wikipedia, PADI, Club subaquatique d'Évian, Le Scaph
