At the top of Central America, Guatemala is one of the most exhilarating countries in the region. Guatemala boasts a rich Mayan culture. There are colonial towns full of attraction and rainforests full of life. There are ancient ruins, beautiful lakes, and deep volcanoes. If you like adventure or the pure satisfaction of traveling off the regular path, Guatemala is worth trying out. Guatemala is a spectacular highlight of the Central and South American backpacker trail. It’s a place worthy of holy pilgrimages, and a versatile destination for the whole family. Guatemala stays with you and calls you back, over and over again.
If you happen to be in Guatemala and hold a dive certification, the country is home to a variety of distinctive sites. These sites present training challenges in the type of both altitude and freshwater diving. Guatemala’s premiere dive area is Lake Atitlán. When diving near Guatemala’s Caribbean coast and into the Cayes of Belize, you can locate about 70 species of coral and 400 species of fish. However, huge sea animals are the show stoppers in this part of town. Divers seldom spot whale sharks, nurse sharks, eagle rays, stingrays and even manatees. Sea turtles make use of the area’s sandy beaches to nest in summer months.
