Estonia's waters are famous for all the shipwrecks that have sunk to the bottom of the sea over a long history and are therefore also perfect for technical diving. Many of the wrecks have been sunk because of war activity. Marine life includes flounder, pouting, sea bass, flatfish, lumpsucker and monkfish. The wreck, Raa originally called the Polaris. This 32 metre sailing-vessel is believed to have sunk in 1941 after an explosion. The Heino (originally General Surovtsev) close to the island of Aegna, was built in 1902 in Riga, Latvia. She was sank in 1944 after striking a magnetic mine.
