Nestled in the Horn of Africa, Djibouti is a small piece of paradise for nature and history lovers, food buffs, and anyone intrigued by the ethnic symphony of this little land populated since the Neolithic Age. This small speck of a country packs a huge punch. Outdoorsy types will get pleasure from a good mix of land and water activities, including hiking, diving and whale-shark spotting in the Gulf of Tadjoura. Djibouti is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. From its vast lakes to the beauty of the capital city, there are many reasons why you need to visit Djibouti.
The best dive sites are in the north, around the Seven Brothers islands. These remote uninhabited islands lie in the narrow Bab El-Mandab straits, which marks the southern entrance to the Red Sea. A variety of fabulous dive sites offers several of Djibouti's most bio-diverse diving. Strong currents (so advanced divers only!) and extremely fine corals are a feature of many of the dives around the Sept Freres. Visit from mid-October to late January and you have chance to see the extraordinary whale shark aggregation at Arta Beach. Between September and January, it is home to resting migrating whale sharks. It is common to see many whale sharks including juveniles who stay within the safe confines of the coast line.
